Classroom management: focusing on all aspects

I have begun my journey as an art teacher, for now at this present time there are certain aspects I need to keep in mind regarding classroom management. Whilst the structure of the class is important particular attention needs to be addressed to the beginning of the class, by greeting and taking the roll call at the start this allows students sufficient time to settle. Communication is key, by verbally communicating task and learning intentions, writing them aswell on the board. Time management also pays an important aspect of class management, making sure students have sufficient time to finish their particular tasks. Planning your lesson in advance is vital part of teaching, being prepared is everything, a focused student is less likely to act up in return.

The ending of the class is also extremely important, always making sure to recap on everything that has been learned to make sure students are taking the learning on board and if it is something new, have they logged it in their learning log. Quizzing the students regularly is a great way of testing their knowledge and in return you would know if they have achieved the learning outcomes. When it comes to motivation there are important aspects to remember, intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation, whilst a student may particularly be only completing a task or doing something extremely well in order to obtain an external reward this portrays extrinsic motivation.

When a student displays intrinsic motivation, it is because they particularly like participating in a subject or a task at hand, because it is joyful to the particular student and they love to take part in these events or circumstances. I myself feel that motivation takes an important role for students in the classroom, whilst its important to promote good behaviour and reinforce opportunities in the classroom. It remains extremely important to praise students when they are doing well and achieving their goals, grading students well to reflect on the work they have achieved and also on the contribution they hade made to complete their task or projects to a high standard that were met. By addressing high standards regularly throughout the year in class in return it would encourage and improve motivation
